All of our products are listed by their standard (nominal) sizes. So, while the nominal size for a rough cut spindle may be 2" x 2", for example, the actual size of the finished spindle is a bit smaller. This is because of the milling process. In order to achieve the proper shape, style, and finish, the rough cut lumber is run through a wood planer. As a result, the finished product has a smoother finish and is a bit smaller. At this point in the process, while the nominal size of the spindle is 2" x 2", the actual dimensions are 1-7/16" by 1-7/16".
Be sure to keep this in mind while browsing our site and ordering your products. View our size chart below for examples of the actual sizes of some of our popular products.
